Tracking the tweets for our Vegas convention!

I had some fun with Chatterlytics this week in Las Vegas. The AT&T Developer Summit was our big developer outreach event. We made some major announcements about our network, our services APIs & devices on the network. We also worked to entice developer who are trying to decide which devices & networks they will build applications for.

Unfortunately it is challenging to gain insight into the audience's feelings about these events. Too often, attendees forgo feedback forms. People are unwilling to be too honest about their opinions when critiquing a presenter in person. Ironically, they will use Twitter to tell the world how great or poor your presentation was. Consequently, Twitter can provide insight that would be impossible otherwise. We specified an official hashtag for the event (#ATTDevSummit) starting January 4th & held the event on January 6th. I began tracking the hashtag on the 4th.

Twitter's search function is well suited for monitoring a conversation in realtime, but it is not easy to see the relationship of the tweets to a particular presentation. The tweets themselves are easy to consume, but correlating them to a particular event requires additional effort.

Chatterlytics provides an immediate recap of the event & can help give us some insight into the statistics of the conversation. It's also easier to read the tweets in this context because of the lighter font weight & presentation of tweets. Chatterlytics has allowed us to measure how successful we were in gaining twitter mindshare amidst the noise of CES & gave us a starting point to measure next year's event. If you have an event whose twitter traffic you'd like to evaluate, why not head over to our sales page?
